The F-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa which allows individuals to enter the United States for the purpose of pursuing a course of academic study. The F visa is established under The Immigration and Nationality Act requires applicants for F-1 visa to demonstrate the following:
- Their residence abroad, with no intention of abandoning this residence
- Their intention to leave the United States once their course of study is completed
- Sufficient funds (student’s own funds or those provided by a sponsor, inside or outside the United States) to pay for the student’s educational and living expenses.
Individuals who enter the United States on aF-1 visa are required to maintain a full-time status with their college or university, and may remain in the U.S. for up to 60 days following the completion of their studies. F-1 visa holders are also allowed to leave and reenter the United States on the same visa as long as they do so during official academic breaks and vacation periods at their college or university.
